PANMA ARIPAN 2

Aripan or Alpana, in mithilanchal, is done, invariably, with a flowing liquid of rice paste. Rice is allowed to soak for 3-4 hours and then it is ground to a fine paste on grinding stone (mixer). It is made into liquid of flowing consistency by adding water. Four fingers of right hand are dipped in this liquid and using the middle and ring fingers lines are drawn 3-4 inches at a time. Main lines are always double due to use of two fingers. decorative lines and dots are made with one finger. Vermilion is applied to the drawings in course of drawing.

Panma Aripan is in the shape of beetle leaf with intricate designs on the inside.

This artwork comes without frame and has been made by hand on Handmade paper, it may have slight irregularities that are a natural outcome of the human involvement in the process.
